    The Wife's Savage FVSR

Just wanted to share what the wife built. Savage FVSR - Nikon Prostaff 3-9x40 BDC, Weaver Rings, Boyd's Stock which she stained and finished, DIP Bottom Metal and Trigger Guard, Tactical Solutions Compensator and Champion 6-9 Swivel Bipod

She loves to see the compliments and being her first build it helps motivate her.

Lol I do have to admit I had a little to do with what direction she took with her rifle. But I'm lucky to even get to shoot it! She loves to joke and say she will let me clean it if I want to get my hands on it, at least I think she's joking....

I've been eyeing these rifles for a while now, she has built it exactly how I want mine. It's too bad they don't have much of a LH selection.

Ya she is very happy with how it turned out. The wife and I are both lefties but we have succumbed/adapted to living in a right handed world.

She just used some basic Minwax products - Pre-Stain Wood Conditioner, Red Mahogany oil based Stain and 3 coats of Fast Drying Polyurethane Clear Satin for the finish.

I've had one for a while now. Shoots tacks. My only issue with any rimfire Savage is the proximity of the front action screw/boss to the magazine well. It does not lend itself to easy pillar bedding.

After I changed it and put it over a Rhineland Arms Leapord stock. Extremely ergonomic....

Great looking rig. I like that stock a lot! Looks like I may have to build my own Savage tack driver now. Might be a 17hmr I think.

Did you get the stock unfinished at Midway ?

Yes the stock was the unfinished one from Midway. I also bought an unfinished one from Midway for my Remington 597. Great products when it comes to feel, fit and quality. You do take your chances with how happy you will be with the look of the grain...one of the reasons my 597 is painted black with Duracoat and not stained. It would have taken quite a bit of sanding to eliminate the blemish from the glue seam in the laminate. The wife's stock had a minimal amount of what I consider "blemish" and she wasn't concerned and went ahead with the staining. Wow I think a simple yes to your question would have been sufficient. Lol
