    Info about Stevens Model 77e .410 pump?

    Hi, I have found a tiny bit of info about a 12ga Model 77e, but cannot find ANYTHING about the Savage Arms Stevens Model 77e .410 pump shotgun. Anyone else have one or know anything about them like years of manufacture? I happen to have acquired one that appears to be in near new condition with nice wood furniture. The forestock is the old style cylindrical grooved wood design, so I know there is some age on this thing. Oh, and it has a 3" chamber.

    See if you can find a really tiny oval on the barrel or receiver with a number and a letter stamped inside it, it's a date code.

    Will do. I'll update the thread with the info when I have it. Is there a date code guide somewhere for Savage/Stevens shotguns?

    Not sure about a guide anywhere but maybe I'll make a sticky with the date codes and post it here somewhere.

    I found the code chart elsewhere. Mine appears to be a "P", so 1963. The oval is stamped on the left side of the base of the barrel with some almost Chinese looking (I know they aren't) manufacture marks. The oval and characters inside are only half there, only the right side seemed to strike hard enough to leave an impression (maybe due to the taper of the outside of the barrel there from the chamber O.D. to the barrel O.D.). I saw no markings anywhere else other than the manufacture/company location, gauge and chamber size on the opposite (right) side of the barrel.

    The chart I found was here: http://www.savage99.com/savage99_dates.htm

    A = 1949
    B = 1950
    C = 1951
    D = 1952
    E = 1953
    F = 1954
    G = 1955
    H = 1956
    I = 1957
    J = 1958
    K = 1959
    L = 1960
    M = 1961
    N = 1962
    P = 1963
    R = 1964
    S = 1965
    T = 1966
    U = 1967
    V = 1968
    W = 1969
    X = 1970
    Y = 1971
