    1 bolt - 2 rifles

    Hello everyone,

I have a bolt assembly from a 2011 110 300 Win Mag and I want to use it in an older (~1988) 110E chambered in 7mm Rem Mag. As long as I have the 7mm rifle headspace checked/adjusted I'm thinking I can use the bolt assembly for both rifles. Am I correct? Thanks for any info.

I would think that would work, as long as both rifles, barrels, recievers were headspaced to that particular bolt. Have you checked to see if the bolt actually fits both recievers? Seems like a dumb question but i've seen it happen.

Of course, you could just buy another bolt.

I have this older 110 that I bought as a project. I've been searching for a bolt with no luck so I started looking into buying a new one. That's when I found out the 7mm mag and 300 mag use the same bolt assembly. I already had the 300 mag rifle so I tried the bolt in the 7mm and it fits perfectly. I was surprised since the two were made 20+ yrs apart. I'm going to get the headspace checked/adjusted on the 7mm. I'll be into the project gun for a grand total of $21.00.

No…No, you misunderstood. That was a "lesson" in rate of return. Not an actual offer to buy. :)

I have two rifles that share the same bolt. One is 6.5 Creedmoor on a centerfeed action, and the other is a .243 I build for my daughter on a staggered feed action that was originally a .223. I didn't feel like rebuilding the .223 bolt, so I just took the one from my Creedmoor and headspaced the .243 on that bolt. Works like a charm!

I'm going to have it checked with the proper gauge but I think the headspace is perfect. I chambered a factory cartridge with no problem then removed the ejector and added 1 layer of Scotch tape (a little over .002" according to my caliper) to the cartridge head and the bolt would close with a little effort. Two layers of tape and it would not close at all.
