    30-06 pet hunting loads

I've been reloading for a long time, but never for a 30-06. I found a deal on a very nice one, so I picked it up. I'm looking for some pet W/T loads. Will generally shoot a 165 bullet, nothing against 150, just do not have them. Anyway, I appreciate the recipes.

Yup, 56 grains of IMR 4350 push 165 game kings quite nicely out of my Sako 30-06. Heck I use 4350 in just about everything with good results. It's the only powder I stock in large quantities.

It's a listed Max load so work up to it but a 165gr Accubond pushed by 57gr of IMR 4350 touched off with a CCI BR2 will get the hunting done nicely. The same load with a 165gr Sierra Game King HPBT goes into one hole from my 116
A good wife and a steady job has ruined many a great hunter.

I just started reloading for my 30-06 walking rifle and 56.6 gr of IMR 4350 pushing 165 Nosler Ballistic Tip, CCI primers. One thing I did though for this particular rifle, and this may open up a can o' worms, but I'm gonna say it anyway...I did the Optimal Charge Weight (OCW) procedure for this gun. Google it and you'll be directed to the exact website with all the info on why to do it and how to do it. It'll take a few bullets to figure it out, but for me it's worth it instead of testing buku load recipes. Good luck and safe shooting.

Since about 1975 I have used 60 grains of IMR 4350 and 165 grain bullet. In one rifle I had to drop back to 64 grains because the pressure seemed a little high with Partition bullets. It has served me well over the years.

Bob Hagel developed this load in issue #43 of Handloader Magazine year 1973. The name of the article is "30/06 Spry Septuarian". In Bob's article the only powder that beat 4350 was old Norma 205.

    Regards, Keith
