Just wanted to let you all know that through reading many hours and forums on here, I have finished my first complete Savage 110 build. I took a bunch of spare parts from my 300 win mag, got a $175 donor 30-06 and went to town. What started as a staggered feed 30-06 in a heavy wooden stock is now centerfeed 300 win mag lightweight mountain gun for my brother as a christmas gift. Hope he likes it! I did all the work myself, including milling out the back of the reciever to accept DBM. Stripped and re-blued the entire reciever, and changed bolt heads, firing pin and retainer. Took it to the range on Wednesday with a Bushnell banner 4-16X40 scope mounted on it and it shot groupd at les than 3 inches at 200 yards with my reloads using 168 grain soft points. I know this gun is nothing fancy, but he wants something that he can strap to his back and go through the brush and rocks hunting bear. He really liked my 300 win mag when it was completely stock with the tupperware stock on it and the shorter sporter barrel. So, I build him this one and gave it a custom paint job on the stock as well. He should be all set this year for bear season!!
Oh, as for the old blondie stock that was all dinged up and looked like crap? Well, let me know what you think. First one I've tried...all comments welcome!

Looks like you did a excellent job. Did you cut the weight by much? Another question. Will that scope fit on that action or will you need to put a one piece rail on it? Anyway very nice.
As far as the weight goes, it weighs just under 8 lbs with a 4-16x40 bushnell installed. It was the same scope that was on my .300 win mag for a few years. He likes it, I upgraded...go to take care of the little brother right? I am using the weaver detachable extension mount rings found here: http://www.weaveroptics.com/rings_ba...t/default.aspx to mount the scope. No need for a one piece rail. Although, I do have one now on my .300 wm and it is nice! So, I'm sure that I didn't cut too awfully much weight, but it definitely weighs less than mine now does with the accustock, heavy 36 in barrel, bipod and a 6.5-20x50 scope...

Here are pictures of my brother's finished .300 (camo), mine is the black and green in the same photo, and dad's 30-06 he's getting. Free floated the barrel, put his initials on the bottom of the stock and carved in Gen. 27:3 on the foregrip, pillar bedded the stock, same stock as in the pic above. All work done to all guns by me.

Ok, here is the .338 Lapua. It is all finished and shoots under .5 MOA. Didn't get any target pictures due to the rain when we were at the range. Had to send the action away to get the treads opened up, while it was there, the machinist trued the action for me also. Went with a pretty cheap Boyd's stock. The only way I was able to do that is do a COMPLETE bed job. Bedding runs all the way out to the end of the foregrip and it also has bedding that beds the CDI bottom metal in. Around the action area I drilled holes through the wood in the stop and took about 1/4 inch of wood out for the bedding. I havent't figured out if I will paint it yet or not. Still trying to figure out how I'm going to do the 3 color honeycomb. All in all, it is a solid rifle! Keep in mind, this was a BUDGET build...that means that the crappy scope on there right now will have to do until more budget is allocated!
