Accuracy of the .270?

The reason I ask is because I've built a 6.8 SPC on a Savage action. I've got the groups down to 1" @100 yards. Not sure what to expect compared to my 22 and 6BR rounds. 90 grain Sierra HPFB will group pretty good. They set at the shoulder neck junction. The 90 grain Speer TNT FB is half way in the neck with the bullets jammed into the lands.(looks more like a Berger VLD) 110 grain Hornady V Max are much longer so I've got lots of working room. No "match" type bullets available that I've found. Any experience with the accuracy of a .270 (.277)?

The 130's may be a bit too heavy though.

I just loaded some hornandy 110 vmax bullets and I think that they are pretty good. I just need to rezero my scope because the lighter bullet has a different point of aim, but the groups are great. Will be working on my 130gr bullets next.

Most of the guys I know here in Montana shoot the 140grn....better BC....better in the wind....better terminal effects.

Personally, I don't care for the .270. I keep one because it's the lightest rifle I have....a Brown Precision LH Remington Mountain Rifle.

I've had a .270 for a while now. I think its an underrated round. It has good distance capability, flies flat, and isn't too hard on the shoulder.

There's a reason O'Conner was such a supporter of the .270. If you look at the ballistics out to 500 yards the .270 has the same P.O.A. as the .300 Win Mag. It holds more energy than the 30-06 at long distances and combined with Winchester Power Points just puts whitetails to "sleep". I haven't had a deer take a single step after being shot in years.

You bet there was.....Winchester would give him anything he wanted as long as he would write about it.

Kinda strange that later in life Jack's favorite rifle was a 7 X 57. He had a pair of them made; one for himself and one for his wife Eleanor.

Im in the process of working on the nosler 130 bt's. If you dont mind me asking, what powder are you using? I have h 4831 and imr 4831.

Win Brass, Win LR primers, Nosler 130 Partition, 60 grn H4831 has been a standard MAX load for over 50 years. I always used 58 grns.

The .270 win is an amazingly accurate round, one of the most underrated of all time.

The .270 is an excellent hunting round, for everything from large varmints to elk. Because it has excelled as a hunting round the market followed the huning theme, fairly light rifles accurate enough to kill a deer. This is also why most of the bullets made in .277 are hunting bullets, not match grade.

With very little work a .270 can be very accurate. My POS Mossberg ATR shoots .5 moa on a regular basis and I have a buddy who has shot 1/4 moa with his Rem 770. Notice that neither of these are expensive BR guns, just your average hunting rifles. I'll try to post some pics, Matt.
