    short vs. long action

I am thinking of my next build and would like to know what is the max oal for the short and max oal for the long actions. I know I have seen them on this site before but can't find them now.

In my experience, it depends on your chamber and magazine. I once loaded some .223 to the chamber length minus .005". Hand fed, they shot great, but would not fit the magazine. So, the OAL is probably dictated by the mag.

Ok, so what are the different mag lengths or what are the measurements of the openings in the bottom of the receivers? All i have is a RUM action and a couple of target actions so I have nothing to measure.
