Help with finding an elk load for a 111 in a 300wm.

I recently purchased a 111 in a 300WM and put a Leupold vx2 4x12 on it. I plan on using it next fall on elk where the shots could range out to 500yards. I need to find a factory load. Instead of paying hundreds on buying multiple boxes of rounds trying to find a good performer can anybody give me some good rounds to start with based on experience? Thanks

Sorry I don't shoot factory ammo but one suggestion I will make with the 300WM, go with at least a 180gr bullet something like an Accubond or Interbond (if you truly think you will be shooting 500 yards) or a Partition. I like heavier but I don't know if you can buy factory ammo for it in the 200gr range.

With my magnums on elk I like 200gr +, 300wsm took a big cow 2 years ago with a 208gr A-max with one shot at 517 yards, the year before that I took a calf with my 338 win mag with a 225gr Interbond at 459 yards. I have used the 280 Remington and 30-06 a good bit as well with 160gr Partitions and 165gr Accubonds.

I have shot some barnes vortex ammo with the 180gr tsx bullets with exceptional accuracy out my 24" kimber. I hand load the same bullets with h4831ssc with even better results. The barnes bullets preformed perfect on elk. The last one I shot was at 397 yds quartering away tucked behind ribs and lodged in the hide behind the off side shoulder. Weighed 179.8 gr after cleaning it up.

190 btsp hornadys and a good stout load of rl 22 will stop most anything walking. bullets have almost as high bc as the amax. the barnes x's are a good choice also

WOW. I liken that to "Where do I find the perfect woman, who'll sex whenever I want it, AND who likes NASCAR and likes hunting. Hit elk in the right spot with any factory 165 to 180 grain 300WM load, and they go DRT. Hit a jackrabbit in the guts with that same load and he'll likely get away. You'll have to work hard at finding that "right load" for your gun. Buy some inexpensive WW, Fed or Rem and spend time sighting in at the various distances. Practice-practice. Then spring for some premium bullet loads and make sure they shoot well for you. 500 yards is a looong way however you measure it. Sighting in at 100 yards doesn't in any way prepare you for shooting at 500 yards.

    Op,
I shoot factory ammo for elk.
Nosler sells accubond or partition for 300 wm. Lapua has mega or naturalis .
Some world records have been set with Lapua factory ammo.

My top picks would be the 180gr Accubond or Partition in any of the factory loads. You can't go wrong either bullet, and there are a lot of elk killed around here every year with those bullets.

    180's either 79-H1000, 70 grs IMR4350, 75.5 RL22, I prefer 200's so 77 H1000, 70.5 H4831, and lastly 77 Ramshot Magnum.

To really wring eveything out of the .300 Win Mag that you can I would consider handloading if I were you.
That said I'd try a Partition or Accubond 180 grain bullet in factory ammo as a starting point.
