    Date of Manufacture for 110

Hey there, I'm a new member here. I've had my rifle for a few years now and never really thought about looking up when it was manufactured. My grandfather picked it up for me, a model 110L .270 with a 5 digit serial number, 212xx. Anybody know around what year it was manufactured?

Look for a stamp on the barrel (might have to pull barreled action from stock to find it) that has a number and letter inside a circle. Post that up and I can tell you the exact year. This of course is assuming it still has the original factory barrel. Barrel should get fatter where the rear sight is mounted then taper back down again if it's the original factory tube.

I wasn't able to find a stamped number and letter inside a circle, but instead I found SP stamped inside a circle on the same side as the serial maybe 2 inches further down the barrel. Also somebody told me that my barrel isn't very common. It has a notch on the barrel. I will post a picture of it.

The SP stamp is simply the proof stamp (SP = Savage Proof) to show it was proof tested at the factory.

Probably looks like this, but the "hump" in your barrel has a dovetail groove to accept a rear sight.

All Savage 110's made prior to 1966 had this barrel profile.

Yeah that is what mine looks like. I checked again for the letter and number but I still couldn't find it.

Usually they're right up by the barrel nut. Could be the barrel was reblued at some point and in the prep process they ground/polished it away as it's usually not a very deep. In any event, with a SN that low I'm guessing it's likely a 1959 or 1960 model which were the first two years of production.
