I don't believe so. No Savage bolt head will work with a rimmed cartridge.

I would love a single shot in 7.62x54. Don't know if the bolt head can be opened up enough handle it though - have asked several vendors and received no answers.

it is not the bolt head dia, it is a case support issue. most rimmed cases are thinner in the web and require the case to be pushed into the barrel including the rim.

Have to disagree with you unless my Mosin's, Savage 99's, and many of my other rifles that shoot rimmed cartridges were made wrong.

I do have some that have recessed rim cuts in the chamber face (Siamese Mauser etc.) - but then some of my S&W revolvers have recessed rims and some do not.

Why bother when you can get a Mosin Nagant for around $100 bucks. You would have a ton of money into a custom barrel, and the gun ontop of that. Mil suplus ammo is not the most accurate thing out there, and I doubt it would shoot any better than it does a Mosin.

The 7.62x54 is a very accurate and well designed round - nice long neck, medium capacity etc. Great brass from Lapua and Norma out there.

As much as I like the '54R ..........

A savage in '06 or '08 will still do better.

And I bought an '06 barrel here for virtual peanuts for my 110 .......

The 54R sits midway between those two cartridges.

If you own a Mosin and care to find web sites with upgrade info .... feel free to PM me.
