Ordered a 3 Groove from Pac Nor but was told it wasn't available for the .270. (6.8 SPC) Settled for a 5 grove and it shoots great and cleans real easy. Real good shooter. The less grooves the barrel has, the easier it is to clean? Havn't seen any difference so far. Just another excuse to fire more rounds to prove a point.

i am trying to plan my first build out and am thinking of getting a 5r i like the idea of pressure not being applied dirrectly across from opposite side, the velosity gain. now i have to figure out the contour, and length
5R rifling is essentially 5 grooves (meaning the lands apply pressure from non-opposing directions) and a radiused transition from land to groove. This configuration was derived after analyzing the shape of the engraving on rifle bullets. It is believed this rifling produces less fouling and improves velocities.
hmmmmmm.....5 groove with radiused transition; almost sounds like Metford (1860's) and Enfield (1880's) rifling technology ;D ;D
Its nothing new it just works, but so does a lot of other rifeling. I added Rock Creek to my barrel line up because of the high demand that the 5R has and no one is really offering it for prefit Savages.
Thompson Center is using the 5R rifling on the Icon which appear to get good reviews, would like to try a 5R on my Savage 12.

I have wondered what the limitations of mechanically pre-fit polygonal barrel& bullet would be.

perhaps one groove in the barrel and a "key" in each bullet to ride the groove?

unless you rifled it and had a bullet that increased in diameter as it spun.
