    Ejecter ?

I have a rifle that I'm only going to use on a bench. Is there a method to lighten the spring or remove the ejector so my spent brass doesn't fly across the room ?

You can cut a coil or two off of the ejector spring. That is what I've done so my 110BA doesn't throw my $2.50/# 338LM Lapua brass all over the cement range

Most of my target rifles I have taken the ejector out for that reason. It is easier to pick brass out of the action than to hunt it on the floor.

Yep...that easy! I've found puting the bolt in a padded vise and slightly depressing the ejector while tapping it out!! If you want to keep the ejector cut a little off at a time and test. I've got mine so that the brass reliably dribbles out of the action.

Yep. Set the bolthead face down on the bench the tap to pin out toward the relief cut with a pin punch, nail, or something just under 1/16" dia. The punch I use is ground down to .058". Drive the pin out, remove the punch and if all goes well the ejector and spring will be laying on the bench when you lift the bolthead.

Just remember when you pull the pin out,the ejector will go flying.I face it down on a soft cloth to catch it.

I would never have told him about the pin & spring getting launched into the next zip code when you pull the retaining pin out.

I believe everyone should experience that phenomenon at least once. It affords the opportunity to invent a few new curse words.

I had enough fore thought to figure that one out ahead of time, sorry. LOL.

Good for you! You're already ahead of the game. Remind me to tell you about the day I slid the extractor off the bolt head & watched the spring & ball disappear into the distance.
As it sailed thru the air, it just disappeared....
