Just curious and thinking ahead, will a 6.5 x 284 (284 Winchester) feed out of a 308 detach magazine?

I have tested my 6.5x284 in a 308 blind centerfeed mag, since the CF blind mag and the CF-DBM use the exact same mag bodies and followers I will say yes you should be fine. If you are seating real long bullets out real far you may have an issue with OAL in a SA mag.

It depends if you are talking straight 6.5-284 or talking 6.5-284 Norma. The 284 win was built for a short action but the 6.5-284 Norma uses the long action much better ( longer vld bullets). A 260 rem would probably shoot right next to a 6.5-284 in a short action. My 6.5-284 is chambered for the Norma and will not fit in a short action Savage mag. They are over 3".
