Today I purchased a 12LRP in 243, to use in groundhog shooting matches. $899.99 and free shipping. I sure hope it shoots my luck with factory made rifles hasn't been good lately, keeping my fingers crossed.

How do I say this without making you doubt your purchase? If I had it to do over again I would've just bought an action and built one with a quality barrel. The barrel on mine looks like it was drilled with a dull piece ready rod. It never shot as good as it should've with "precision" being in it's name.It's been back to Savage to be checked but they didn't do anything. I like the action and the stock so it's getting a McGowen this winter. Hopefully it will shoot then. Good luck with yours though. Where you at in Pa.?

Just shoot it and see. I bought a used Savage 11 in .243 for my friends 10 year old son for deer hunting. I dropped it into a Boyds stock and put a Rifle Basix trigger in it. The stock 22" sporter barrel shot a .45" group at 100 with Nosler 100 Partition handloads. I would hope the LRP would be as good but sometimes you get a dud. The attraction of Savage is a barrel swap is easy and the pre-fit barrels are inexpensive. If your not happy you can sell the stocker and pick up a McGowen, Shilen or Criterion for $300 or so and you'll be good to go. I have a McGowen in 22-250 and a Shilen in .308 that are just as accurate as my Krieger on my Remi 700 for about half the price.

The .243 is a sweet caliber for both Varmint and deer. Nice choice!

I'm from South Africa and I'm still busy with load development,but so far of the six loads I've tried only one was over 1/2". The rest is smaller than 1/2 inch. The heavy barrel and accutrigger is awesome. Can't wait to stretch it's legs this weekend to 600m.I have a Rem Sendero but it doesn't shoot this well!!! The best buy I did this year,def!!! I think you will be impressed!

Since I bought my LRP I built 2 others on 110 actions with Shaw barrels and both will do sub 1/2 moa @ 200yds. Can't wait to see a McGowen will do.

I have an LRP in 6.5, shoots sub moa out to a 1000 if I do my part. When I was working up a load I had groups of just over an inch at 300 yards. Had a 3 inch, three shot group at 1000 yds last month, unfortunately it was off the target so no points, **** wind. :)

Several weeks ago I purchased a new LRP in .243, my scope finally arrived this week a SIGHTRON 10-50x60 with a target dot. I put together some rounds with 58gr. VMAX bullets and 41grs of IMR 4320. I also had some loads I put together several years ago for my Sako using 87gr VMAX bullets but can't remember the powder probably IMR 4064? At the range at 100yds. after 4 shots I was on the paper, I moved to a clean target and fired 5 shots that all touched each other and measured .667. The loads using the 87gr VMAX didn't do nearly as well. I also have some 68gr Bergers and 105gr AMAX, that I want to try next week. The gun has a nice feel and due to the weight doesn't move around a lot, it looks promising.

I had one for a bit, it shot the 105 Amax's pretty well. I think I used Varget.

I'm going to try the Varget and the 105's, I hunted groundhogs all my life this year I just started shooting the paper ones, the big difference is consistency. Shooting a good group today is wonderful, but can you do it again tomorrow, that sounds easy but its not.

My best 243 load is with 105 A-Max, Imr 4350, Fed 210m primer, Winchester case. Do about as good with Varget, though it doesn't fill the case as much as one would like to see. Mine is a sporter barrel. If I'm correct you have a 26" barrel. That's a plus!

Too all, don't let looks fool you with a Savage. My gunsmith has told me several times my 308 barrel looks "less than stellar", he would like to lap it but says he is afraid to, since it shoots so good. Sometimes it is a tell tale sign, sometimes not.

Its not coming along at all, from new I had the occasional problem of not firing, it made a dent in the primer but did not fire, it continued to get worse, some times 3 out of 15 wouldn't fire. So several weeks ago I called Savage and shipped it back. Haven't heard a thing since.

I'm sure they will find the problem. Some thing I just read today that I never heard of, NOT bedding the tang on the Savage rifles, I guess that's because there is no mounting screw in the tang? Do you know if there are any pics of a bedded stock to show whats bedded and whats not?
