Scope for Savage 11 Hog Hunter

I recently purchased a savage 11 hog hunter .308 and haven’t even had the chance to take it to the range yet due to rain and work. So I’m sitting here staring at my new gun and I start thinking about possible scope options. I think I am going to look for a lower powered scope with a wide viewing range since this will be used primarily for shorter distances (under 300 yds) and something that would allow for quick follow up shots on possibly moving targets. I really don’t want to spend over $200 if at all possible.

It seems like there are a lot of knowledgeable people on this site and I would appreciate any input on what you guys use and recommend that would fit my criteria. I am still up in the air on fixed vs. variable power scopes. I have used both and I’m thinking a set 4x scope may be my best option right now.

I already posted this in the help me decide section since I am new to this site and hadn’t seen the scope section yet. Sorry if some of you are reading this post twice.

I recently bought a Leatherwood Hi_Lux 2.5 - 10X 44 mm (30mm tube) All Terrain Professional from Opticsplanet that I want to try on my 11HH. Including Weaver 30mm lever lock rings and shipping was $214 but you should shop around first.

If you don't mind a fixed power then I would recommend a Weaver K4 or K6.

All depends on the type of hunting you will be doing.

For me, I put a Weaver 1-3 Classic variable as I wanted to keep the scope as clean and small as possible for carry in the brush, I also have Leopold QD low rings, This combo is perfect for me as I really don't plan on shots more than 200 yds, and sometimes I just want a clear sight picture and a good field of view !

Might want to look at the Leupold VX Hog specifically designed by the engineers at Leupold just for such a purpose and about $225 for the 1-4x20 AND it's a Leupold what's not to love.

A good wife and a steady job has ruined many a great hunter.

Yep sounds good, but for me as I have two Weaver 1-3 Variable Classics, the party is over ;- )
