I've slowly collected the parts over the years and just picked it up from my GS yesterday. I'd have finished it myself but I've had this one on hold for over a year just because my new job is getting in the way. I want to use this rifle on an OK deer hunt in November. Build as follows:
Stevens 200 stagger feed
B&C Carbelite stock
24" Shilen barrel
NSS tuned 3 screw trigger
SSS bolt handle
Leupold PRW rings and bases
Vortex Viper 2-7X32
Headspace, Pillar, and glass bedding done by Kevin Weaver
Loaded up 117 grain Sierra PH and 110 grain Accubonds to try first. Both of these bullets shoot very well in my .25-06.

KISS is the safe way to go. That way in a pinch you can use her ammo and she yours if your out in the field and run out or forget yours/hers at home.
I am a huge fan of the Ackley chambers mostly because of the added brass life and eliminated trimming. Any speed gains are also a nice bonus.
Standard or Ackley'ed its a cool and underappreciated caliber and I tip my hat to you for choosing it. I will keep my eye out for a range report in the future, when you can break away and get to the range.

That turned out great. Nice work.
Got to the range this week and wish I had some bugholes to show. However I did get some good data and realized I screwed up on some of my loads. I tried both 117 grain Sierra PH and 110 grain NAB, stopped when I shot the first Sierra bullet since my starting load went faster than my fastest load with the 110 NAB so I didn't shoot anymore of the Sierra's. Got home and found out my digital scales and thrower needed to be recalibrated as my thrower was putting about an extra 1.5 grains of powder in the case. I confirmed this with my beam scales, guess I'll be doing this a little more often.
I shot the 110's before I shot the 117's and they seem to be inline with the data from Nosler. Anyway I only had one group go under an inch, but nothing went over 1.5 inches. I imagine my barrel just needs to settle in a little more and my groups will tighten up. Anyway not much data to go on yet but I'll go out and confirm some of my results soon.

What contour and twist on that barrel? I am getting ready to build a 257 Roberts on a Model 12 and am thinking of a 1:9 twist for heavy bullets.
1:10 and that will allow me to run up to 120's just fine. I imagine I'll settle on 100 grains or less as I have a .25-06 to run heavies. I just used these bullets because I didn't want to tap into my Daughters stash of 87 grain bullets.

Very nice rig. Can't wait to get my Roberts started. Still have to buy a few tools and decide on a stock. Figure about a year to do it because I am going to do most of it myself if time and knowledge allow. Can't wait to see more of your range results.
Ah my favorite caliber. Great looking rifle as well. I have three rifles in this caliber now. One I built fo my nephew another thats mine built on model 10 actions with Adams and Bennett 24" sporter barrels. Then I also have the old 99 take down. My pet loads are with the 115 Berger VLD. I hav found that the .250 Savage case loves Reloader 17 I am running 36.0 grains and getting a velocity of 2840 with no pressure signs and half inch groups at 100 yards. I have effectively taked deer out to 662 yards with this load and it piles them right up. My nephew just killed a 300 pound cow elk with his last weekend with a shot behind the shoulder and blew a baseball sized hole clean through her at 120 yards. The .250 is definitely under appreciated.
Yeah I had to build one for myself after buying the .250 Savage for my daughter. I bought her a Custom Mini Mauser built by Kevin Weaver for his daughter. 12.5" LOP and just a hair over 6lbs with a Leupold VX1 2-7X33 LRD mounted on top in Leupold standard one piece base and rings.
