Savage 99 lever loose when it is open

The action on it is nice snd smooth, and when it is closed it is nice and tight, it is a bit wobbely to the left and right when it is open. Is this normal? I don't think it interfers with the operation of the gun at all and probably(hopefuly) has a easy fix.

    Thanks for any advice

THe lever should be fairly snug. Check the screw and bushing at the hinge. My breech bolt is also pretty snug.

Mine just got back from g'smith amd I checked with calipers and dial gauge. Play in the lever at full open is .125 left or right or .250 total. Play in breech bolt is .018 when measured from port side and holding bolt hard against the receiver on the other side with bolt in the half open position. The screw in the hinge can only be tightened into the bushing and this produces the small amount of relief to keep the lever from sticking at the hinge. If you are interested I can measure the relief with a feeler gauge
