    Just An Observation

I was wondering why the .260 - .264 caliber is referred to as 6.5mm when it is not, actually .257 is 6.5mm 260 -264 is 6.7mm,
and while we are on the subject a 270 Win which is .277 is 7mm, and .284 7.2mm
so whats up with that, how did it get so screwed up.

That's odd--I've always thought of 270 as 6.8 mm, lol.

I'm no expert, but I'm guessing in most cases--if you forgive the pun--it's a sordid tale of initial development in parent cases which are then necked up or down as they get wildcatted to accommodate different established bullets?

I know that's odd, that is what everyone always thought the numbers added up to, but I guess no one took the time to actually look, and while I am still at it .243 is not 6mm .236 is 6mm. I would like to speak with the manager.

Well......if you think about it, the Swede's invented the round didn't they? Over there it snows alot and they just have Skinny BIG Blonds to keep them busy....aside from ballistics. I'm fairly certain that had something to do with the numbers getting.....Ummm...messed with.

If women were involved--then large amounts of alcohol must have been also--so that explains it.

I read this somewhere and if i remember correctly it goes like this. Standard measurements are by groove and metric are by lands.

Dean you have to keep in mind that there are three kinds of people in the world; those that are good at math and those that are not.

Marketing. Same thing with Ford's 4.9/300 six vs 5.0/302.

Probably for the same reason that hotdogs come in packages of 10 while hotdog buns come in packages of 8.
They who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.
