Receiver Sights on Centerfire Savage

Thinking of installing Williams receiver sights on one of two centerfire Savages, FP-110-TK. Once the front sight is installed on the barrel, that is it? The barrel cannot be changed and indicated? Looks like the rear sight will fit a Weaver base?

Assume they can be effective out to 400 yards.

Depends on what you call effective. Peep sights on my M1 will take out a man sized target at 1000 yds with ease, group into 6" dia. at 1000, no. And my M1 is an H&R made in the last group ever made and is very accurate, a winner when I shot hi-power. Peep sights are definately a cut above open sights as iron sights go and single shot rifle match scores with peep sights are unbelievable. Once a rifle is set up with iron sights I wouldnt swap barrels but it can be done by marking the barrel and reciever and returning the barrel to the match mark. You may have to rezero the sights. Headspace should be OK and can be checked.

Wouldn't ever shoot past 400yrds. Used to shoot these sights in 22 caliber matches, they were plenty accurate. Probably won't ever swap out the barrel anyway. There was a stock savage .223 rifle set up like this in the classified last year that interested me.

This setup works fine on Savage's

Williams rear and NECG front band - the Williams isn't easily adjustable in the field for elevation like the side mount receiver sights but you don't have to drill any extra holes.

do you know of anybody else that makes a similar front sight set up? i REALLY like the NECG banded front sight, but their web site only lists ID for the bands up to .827", which won't fit my bull barrel.

Ugly - more for the highpower type setup but might fit. Other options would be a screw on ramp.

I used the williams sights on my wife's 45 ACP Savage I built for her. Here is how it is setup:

    Front sight:

    A few views:

    Rear sight:

    Sight picture:

The front sights are Tech Sights that are made for .920 barreled 10/22's. The rear sights are Williams WGRS with a ghost ring.

45 ACP bolt gun done...with pictures

458x2 American (at teh bottom of thsi thread)

I addition to the bullets in these threads I have also loaded 300 grain SP's. Those are hell on anything within 50 yards but drop like a mortar after that.

    Anyways, enjoy

Hey Eric, have you found any narrow inserts for the NEGS front band? They have a band that will fit the new barrel perfectly.
