    22-250 Barrel Help

I bought a varmint contour Savage factory barrel a few months ago. The barrel came from a Savage with the new smooth barrel nut. The original owner drilled a 3/16" hole into the barrel nut and went too far. There is a hole in the shank that is
    .065" deep.

Anyone see a potential safety problem here?

None what so ever, even if it was a mag caliber.

As long as you don't load any ammo like Dean does you'll be OK.

OK Here we go 40gr Vmax 40 Varget, 50gr Vmax 39gr Varget, 55gr Amax 38 gr Varget, start 3gr lower and work your way up, if you don't have Vmax's or Varget, post what you have and we will come up with something.

WBM - You're going to try a load recommendation from Dean?!?!!?

Make sure your life insurance is up to date. He tried to convince me to fill a 30.06 case to the brim & hold the bullet in place with scotch tape.

    Good morning Brother Dean.

A compressed load is a happy load.

Hey, by the way - At the risk of thomae coming down on me like a ton of bricks for the proverbial thread hijack, I got those 180 Speer GS's to work nicely.

And no, it wasn't a compressed load. I used brass with .005" or less neck tension the first time. I went back to the 'ol .002" neck tension & they worked good. Think of all the powder I'll save by not sending them at Mach 4....

A thread is hijacked when the OP thinks it is hijacked right? I don't think it is hijacked. Now that we have settled that, on to other things. This particular barrel shoots 68gr Hornady match bullets and Superformance powder so well that there is no need to go with anything else....so there is no need to try one of Dean's loads is there?

No there is not a need to try them, I post for all forum members to use if they choose, I actually don't know of any forum members who have ever used them, I have never got a PM saying hey Dean that's an awesome load you posted there thanks, don't worry I won't take it personally I only obliged because I was asked to, actually these are loads I have used in the past, these are not loads that I currently use, I would not post these. It's all good.

So if someone said like "my 22-250 can beat up your 22-250" would you take THAT personally?

Yes that would cross the line, and would have to challenge that 22-250 in a duel.LOL

Actually I take that back, there is one individual that was brave or naive enough, to try one of my loads, Dennis from McGowen outlet tried my 338 edge load, which consisted of a 160gr Barnes TTSX and a whopping 100gr of RL17 "not a typo" and ended up with sub 1 min grouping and an earth shattering 4000+ FPS, he told me he could have had better groupings than that, but was a little apprehensive pulling the trigger and it affected his concentration, Ya Big Baby, now he says he is going to start playing with that load, to try and close up the grouping, by reducing the load, WRONG and anyway that is sacrilege, Dean's rule of thumb when you want to tighten up your grouping you add powder, in fact you keep adding powder until it cooperates, My best load is 105gr for 4200 FPS+ that's my story and I am sticking to it.
