Honing the rings is a good thing to do. But I would prefer to align them correctly than cut them.
I purchased a scope ring cutter and have been resetting all my scopes after I cut the rings. Other than removing too much material and loosing effective grip on the ring screws, what possible down sides are there? The up side seems evident in the removal of any torque resulting from misalignment.
