    Ejector AND Firing Pin?

I'm about to set the headspace on my rifle and the info have
says to remove the firing pin and ejector. I understand about
removing the ejector, but does the firing pin really need to be
taken out? I realize there is a possibility of a dry fire on the headspace
gage. I searched and didn't find an answer.
    Thanks.

I don't. I do measure headspace to confirm the proper dimensional tolerance.

I remove the firing pin to get the bolt to close with less force-so I can "feel" the resistance. No firing pin gives less resistance and better feel.
