Critique please? Pretty please?! With sugar on top?!?

Getting ready to start assembling parts next week.

This is what I have settled on. Let me know if I am off in the weeds.

Scope: Vortex Viper HS Long Range 6-24x50 First Focal Plane w/ XLR MOA reticle
    Base: EGW 20MOA
Rings: Burris Xtreme Tactical 30mm, .75" high

If anyone has a good source on Vortex glass, let a fella know. :)

Sounds good to me! I'm running the same base and rings and the vortex viper 6.5-20x50 until I upgrade to the ffp camera land NY has great prices.

Why a FFP and not a SFP?

I learned to range on a FFP MoA reticle, a HorusVision H25 to be specific. Loved the reticle system, their glass is underwhelming IMO. The XLR reticle is very near the H25 and the only 2 scopes Vortex offers the reticle in also happen to be FFP.

I have had 2 army and one marine sniper try to teach me Mil ranging but I just cant work the math. I guess it comes down to the tail wagging the dog, but its a system I am comfortable with.

I have the same base and rings on a 10pc. Although the rings are good, I dont like how large they are. For a little more money you can get tps rings that in my opinion look alot better. I have three sets of them on other rigs.

im curious as to the degree af accuracy when using a ranging reticle at distances beyond say 800 yds
    in unfamiliar territory?

Thanks for the tip JD, I'll take a look at them.

    Yobuck, it's a simple formula.

Target Size (in inches)/measured size in scope X 100 yards

So far as I know, there isn't a drop off in accuracy at range because of the math itself. This isn't a BDC. The only error really is guessing the target size portion of the formula. So, you plug in 72" for a man-size silhouette, and it's actually only 70"? Your error would be like 20 yards at 1000 yards.
