    Gritty Mark II Trigger

Can someone help me out please.
I just purchased a Savage Mark II and the trigger feels like rubbing two pieces of lava rock accross each other. How can I tell if it's a Mark II F or what.
Is there some way to smooth the trigger out? It is not an accutrigger. (Didn't no Mark II's came out without them)

The Mark II F will have a plastic stock. The earlier Mark II didn't have the AT and have the worst triggers ever. You can lighten the pull by shimming it but the slack in the side play is near impossible to remove. You can look for an aftermarket trigger.

The pull is not as horrible as what I've read. 8-10 lbs. Judging with a 50 year old finger I'd say 3 lb. 3/16ths travel. You're right. The side play is atrocious. Why couldn't that be shimmed?
It just feels worse than sand paper all the way through like it was never cleaned up after machining.
I have been dry firing it with spent casings in it. The more I dry fire it the smoother the action.
