    Gap #7 Contour

I have a Savage HS Precision in .308. I would love to try and find a pre-fit barrel that is as close to the GAP #7 Contour as possible. 1.200 to .920. Can someone point me in the right direction for a pre-fit or am I pissin in the wind? I don't think Bartlien makes pre-fits for Savage do they?

Pac-Nor and Shilen have roughly the same contour cataloged(NBRSA and #7 respectively). Neither is an exact match, but close enough.

That's a contour intended for a shouldered barrel. Nobody makes pre-fits for a shouldered barrel.

Really? That's interesting. Looks like I might have to settle for a 1" contour?

That contour is very close to the M24, but like stated earlier, that is for a shouldered install.

    M24 contour is 1.2" for 4" then straight taper to .9" @ 26"

I think that is what I want because, I hunt with my rifle and I shoot static as well. However it is slightly larger than my factory barrel and I like the profile a little better. I'm thinking about changing to .260 Rem so I was wanting to kill two birds with one stone.

Why hunt with a long truck axle barrel?

Sav Varmint works great, Bull if ya want heft, or i'm sure GAP would do a nutless Bartlein install for ya.

What you are probably wanting is a Bull contour 1.060" to 1.000" at the muzzle for small shank or 1.120" to 1.000" for large shank. Or you could go with a custom contour to .920" which is easy to order. I wouldn't get a shouldered barrel on a Savage, resale (if you ever do) is half what a standard prefit is and you would end up paying more to have a shouldered one installed.

I went with a 26" nutless Bartlein heavy Palma barrel in .260 Remington and it shoots awesome (just weighs a ton).

g2ghost: If you become a paid member you can access the classifieds. There is a .260 barrel on sale there as we speak.
