    New to the Savage family

I was in the market for a bolt gun and was able to pick up a model 11 Hog Hunter in .223 for pretty cheap. Coming from the AR build side of things I have plenty of ammo laying around so it worked out.

I am the type of shooter that just has to tinker with my rifles. I removed the iron sights, installed a Bell and Carlson stock and mounted a Vortex crossfire on top. After mounting the scope I went ahead and ordered a extended bolt to help keep my hand from hitting the scope while pulling the bolt back(on the way). Other than the extended bolt I don't plan to add anything else at this time except probably a bipod.

I took her out today to sight her in and I am very impressed overall with the gun. The accu-trigger is very smooth right out the box, with no tweaking needed on my end. I was shooting 55gr cheapo ammo and overall very happy with the grouping and this rifle. I expect my groups to tighten up with better quality match ammo.

    Hi,
    Raising a Thread.

I too, purchased this rifle but in .308.

I had an issue trying to find a scope base for it that fit. (Picitiny?) but managed to rework one for a model 110.
Mine now has an 8x32x50 scope and Harris BiPod, and el-cheapo strap.

I did have a 10x40x50 OSPREY atop it, but it was a bit overkill.

    The gun shoots great.
    Accu-Trigger is really nice.
-This is my first Savage. (shame)

I do not like "not" having a detachable box mag for it.
And working one into it will cost a few hundred bucks. As much as I paid for the rifle unfortunately.

But over all I like it.
I take it, it is a really new design because I hardly see anything on them.
    I'm kinda thinking I should have purchased a 110.

    EDIT:
I must say I don not like having to remove the rear sight when bolting up the scope.
(front of the scope was riding on top of the rear peep site)

Still working at sighting it in and reloading some good ammo for it ATM.
    Will post more later.

I was going to add a photo, but it wants me to upload from a url.
no direct upload from my computer?

That is correct. Only from a URL. That keeps photos with embedded viruses off the server. Also, linking to existing hosted photos reduces (significantly) server storage space needed to run the forum. It keeps everyone's costs and risk lower.
