    200Gr .308 load

I have tried a couple 200 gr loads with poor results. Has anyone played with Ramshot Big Game and 200 Gr smks? I have a LW barrel and the free bore is about 100 thousands so I can use more case capacity to push them 2500 or so.

Since no one has replied to your post as yet, I might put in my two cents worth. I am rather reluctent to use anything that heavy in my .308 simply because its a very heavy bullet and I would expect it would have no big advantage over like say a 175 grain for most shooting. For hunting I would think that if you wanted to use a bullet that heavy then go up to a 30.06 or 300 mag, where you have more powder capacity. Also your rifling rate has a lot to do with bullet selection. What is the rate of twist in your barrel? I have a 1 in 10 twist in my stock savage heavy barrel. Its supposed to handle the heavier bullets but not sure about 200 grain.

1-10" twist should be able to handle 200 gr bullets without problems, I think. The challenge normally is the lack of case capacity. I have a box of 208gr A-Maxes but haven't tried them in my 308 yet. Probably will just save them for a future 30-06 or 300 WM build. My Savage 308 has a short throat. The 208 gr bullets would have to be seated quite deep into the cases.

I wouldn't try to push any bullet heavier than 180 grains out of a 308 winchester. the 30-06 has the advantage with greater case capacity; with that you can use slower burning powders that push the bullet out farther and harder. I would use that weight bullet in something like a 300 magnum.

    Theoretically, it's desirable.

A double base powder would be the go.

what do we have in America that a 168 grain won't kill?
the 7x57 with a 175 grain has killed 100's of elephants
