Before I purchas an action, is the 300 wsm short action long enough to handle 7wsm loaded with 180 gr. vld bullets? Also I see a lot of blued actions with stainless steel barrels. Are they superior to stainless steel actions or used because they are a few $ cheaper? Any way what I am looking at is a 12vlp DBM, changing barrel to a 26" 7wsm 5r Kreiger heavy barrel, sss trigger. bedded acton and t&t action.
I'm sure someone with much more knowledge than I will pipe in here,but when I looked at a similar build last year I believe I was told by various people it wouldn't work.
The VLD's are great but almost always seem to long for the stock DBM.
at least seated where they need to be.
Aftermarket DBM's are an option (CDI) but expensive.
They work very well in my long action. I have an 8" twist 7mmWSM Shilen for the 180g VLD's and 200g RBBT Wildcats.
Short actions are going to be way too short for 180 VLD's unless you run it single shot. Even with aftermarket DBM's.

Glad you guys replied. I thought the short action would be marginal at best. Can I use a long action 300 win mag or do I need to stay with the 7mm magnum, as far as feeding through the DBM?
The new centerfeed is the way to go. Get a long action with a DBM in 300win or 7RM and you're good to go. That's what my newest one is.
I've also run them on both caliber stagger feeds with good success, but centerfeed is smoother and I worry less. :)
