Dremmel
Hi guys I have a newer savage with the smooth barrel nut. I was in the process of removing the barrel and have run into a problem. I have one of Jim's action wrenches and a barrel nut wrench from midway. I got everything on and gave it a shot. The nut wrench was sliping. I attempted to tighten the wrench some more and the screw snapped on the nut wrench.
Is there a serect or trick to remove the new smooth barrel nuts

And cut slots in it like the old nuts?
pipe wrench, change nut to slotted
The problem I had getting the smooth nut off was due to the blueing salts in the threads. Used a pipe wrench and finally got things loosened up and the barrel off. However when I tried to remove the smooth barrel nut from the barrel I had to clamp the barrel down and use a pipe wrench again.
need to clean well toothbrush and brake cleaner work nut, brush, spray several times comes off easy
throw that smooth boy away and buy Romad's barrel nut and lug!
Dremmel and cut through at an angle if you want to save the threads on the barrel to re-use. I had to get mine off in this fashion, couldnt even budge it with a pipe wrench.
Use Kroil oil and let it set over night every one I have done this way came off with on trouble.
I put the barrel in a barrel vice and used an action wrench to unscrew the action away from the smooth nut. I purchased a slotted barrel nut with the new barrel and used the barrel vice and nut wrench to tighten everything back up. Went very quick and smoothly this way.
Threw the smooth nut away (undamaged BTW).

Pipe wrench it off. Then put a slotted nut on it.
