    Building first rifle .204 ruger

Building my first savage rifle in .204 ruger for a spring prarie dog hunt. Was wondering if im missing anything or if any of my choices are poor for some reason i dont see.

    Savage Model 12 - SF - .378 (204/223) Bolt Face - Light Weight Accu-Trigger - Stainless - $365.00

    26" Stainless Select Match - Small Shank - Varmint - 204 Ruger - 10 Twist - $289.00

    From Northland Shooters Supply

Bell & Carlson Tactical Medalist Savage 10 Stock for the stock.

Is there anything that i missed? Can this be converted to a 308 with a barrel and bolt head change?

Barrel and bolt head change, and the floating piece behind the bolt head. On the 223 class cases there is a longer portion, merely to prevent excess bolt travel backwards.
I'm a firm believer in the theory that if it bleeds, I can kill it.

Have Jim add one of his replacement recoil lugs and you should be ready to go.

If you tell Jim what you want to do with your project he will help you to get everything good to go safely.

I have done business with Jim several times and have been impressed with his knowledge and willingness to go the extra mile and a half to see you are completely satisfied.

I had better luck with 40gr Bergers and Reloader 10x.

I have not tried the Bergers yet (I have some 35 gr Berger "Varmint" sitting on the shelf to try). I did not get good accuracy with the 32 or 40 gr V-max and was very discouraged. I typically get 1/2 MOA, sometimes 1/4 MOA with the 39 gr BlitzKings for 5 shots at 100 yds.

Sierra for the Blitz Kings and Berger for the Bergers.

They come in whatever the same model .223 comes in. Other than the barrel the two rifles are identical.

I would recommend a trigger upgrade. Something like the SSS Competition trigger.
They who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.

Scalian, Here is what I did with my 204 12fv I put a 26" McGowen HB 11 twist. On a B&C medalist stock after I bedded it. And it has a sss trigger in it. I shoot 40gr. berger bullets in it with eather accurate 4064 powder witch will give about 3560fps. or benchmark that will give about 3860fps but that is a over max load. Even though the 4064 powder is slower the accuracy i got with it was really good. Good luck on your pdog hunt.
