ordered a Model 10 PC last night.

They were out of stock at my LGS supplier but its on his list so he is shopping. But I have a question about the Model 10 PC. Seems that somewhere I saw a 10 round mag that works with the factory DBM? I did choose to with .223 on this rifle as I do not have a .223 bolt gun. any how thinking 20MOA base putting my SWFA SS 10x on it. and my old harris bipod and rocking. Maybe a Vortex 4-16 PST FFP next year. anything else im forgetting?

For a 223, a 20 min base is a good idea. Load up some 75gr Hornady HPBT bullets to near max loads and you will be all set. Check your magazine length when you get it, also check your throat dimension, you should be able to load the long 75gr boat tail bullets a lot longer than Sami spec and it will still fit in the magazine. That also allows more powder without going too high in pressure. I had a really long OAL on the bullets then I found that I could not close the lid on the ammo case, so I reduced it to the max that my 50 round case allows.

If you are going for long range, don't waste your time with the lighter bullets, the wind deflection will drive you nuts. Unfortunately the twist rate is insufficient for the slippery Bergers, doing that would need a custom barrel. As it is though, mine will shoot the 75gr HPBT bullets 1/2 MOA and it is a very easy gun to shoot, especially for people new to shooting.

I have 2 boxes of 69 SMKs HPBTs on hand and some (Speaks quietly) Varget will need some FGMM Small Rifle primers. I will keep my eye out for some 75 gr Hornadys. My hopes were that it will shoot at min a 68gn bullet well.

Any Ideas on larger mags for the Factory DBM? If the rifle is as good of a shooter as my Model 10 308 is I can see it landing in a McCree or XLR in the future.

This is the only magazine I know of http://www.sharpshootersupply.com/Magazines.html

I believe that Wideners has the 75gr bullets for sale in bulk http://wideners.com/itemdetail.cfm?i...|281|1081|1159
$625 for 5000 = $0.08 each. Pretty good price and its in stock...

I am shooting those and they work good. If Savage had gone with a 1:8 twist it would have been an absolute winner.

Check your math. 12.5¢ each. Still probably a good deal, especially if they shoot well.

Still no word on it, are they selling that fast everywhere or was it just the luck of the draw that my LGS supplier is out?

The Wideners bullets are Armscor if I am not mistaken.

Dark eagle makes a 10 round mag for the .308 family. Their web page is coming up scrambled but here's a link.

I have bought Hornady 75gr HPBT before and I am positive that these are Hornady. Very tight specs, very accurate stuff.

Does the 10PC have a metal bottom magazine or plastic? Darkeagle makes 10 round for metal DBMs and RatMag makes them for the plastic DBM's.

I am waiting for a Darkeagle for my 10TR, got my RatMag a couple of weeks ago.

The Savage metal DBM is 100% nicer than the plastic, just solid. The plastic you have to jam in with a hit.

Model 10 and 12 are steel. Model 11 went with the plastic junk which is why I will never touch it.

I was refering to the rifle its self as being available. Any reason why the LGS supplier would not have them?

Buds does not have any currently either. If Buds does not have it, it is hard to get them. They do have the model 10 predator hunter Max 1 which is similar. Slightly longer barrel on the max 1. (22" vs 20" on 10PC). It has a 9 twist barrel (they say 9 and not 9.25) and an accustock.

What options ? The only thing that comes to mind is a threaded barrel, which BTW my 10PC does not have. Given that Savage barrels are so easy to remove, you could have a local smith thread your barrel for whatever you wanted for a nominal fee.

    Model 10Pc does now come with a threaded barrel 1/2 x 28 on 223 and 5/8 x 24 on 308s. They come shipped with a thread protector.
