I'm looking for a inexpensive scope for a axis I bought a couple months ago. I found a Vortex crossfire 4-16x50 illuminated v plex reticle with a 30mm tube for $130. I use mainly leupold vx2 and up and a couple of nikon monarchs. How does the optic quality and overall quality stack up to them? I can't expect a Leupold quality scope for $130, but will I be satisfied?

I have one I picked up several years ago. I had it mounted on a .308. It doesn't hold zero for anything anymore. I probably ought to send it back but I guess I'm just too lazy. It does function OK for spotting duty at 100 though as long as you don't turn the magnification up too high. What do you expect from a $99 optic with 6.5-24x magnification.

I have had a couple of Crossfires anywhere from 6x24x50 to 8x32x50 and several of them went bad, mostly the adjustments wouldn't move. Several I am still using including the 8X32. I understand the Crossfire II's are a lot more reliable, I don't have any personal experance.
I have not had a very good time with several Nikons either, and it has soured me on them.

A couple of years ago I paid $150 at Natchez for a Bushnell 10X Tactical; its a pretty good scope with nice turrets and decent glass but now more expensive unless you can wait for a sale. Check for used fixed power scopes on SWAFA.

I have been shooting Burris optics for years and they have never let me down.
I bought a couple of their new E 1 series of scopes at the end of last year when Burris was offering a $50 rebate on em. I was really impressed by the features and the optical quality of these units. I've got a Leupold VX2 3-9x40 on it right now and it's fine, I just stumbled upon the vortex and saw it had a lighted reticle.
You guys with the "Bad" Crossfires, contact Vortex, they're. guaranteed for life you know. If you buy a crossfire, you'll definetly need that warrenty. Don't ask how I know. Customer service is excellent though.
i've had a 8x32x50 for about 6 years now start out on a 308 (1st year) then mated it to a 223 has never given me a problem i have heard about them going bad but i think its because it is on a 17 lb f t/r rifle so far it has about 3000 rounds on it or alittle better than . i wish i could find another for another 223 biuld for my son to shoot but he wants to just keep shooting mine (wife also) another one to look out for is a used bushnell 4200 in 8x32x42 i've seen them go for 225.00 every now and then .
