    savage action lenght

    hi!
    i own a model 16 in 7wsm.
i saw on savage's web site that the model 16 in 7wsm and in 7 rem mag
both have the same barrel lenght and same overall lenght. this must mean that they use the same action and that i can rebarrel to any caliber in between?
    right?

Nope. 7wsm is a 16 or short action and is a large shank. 7TM is a 116 or long action and is a small shank. I cant find the 7WSM on savages web site. I do see 3/4 of an inch difference in the 270 wsm(43.75) and the 7 rem mag(44.5).

you are right about the 7wsm not being there, i looked a little closer and i see the 270wsm, 300wsm, 7 rem mag, 300 win mag being all 43.75" in the left hand model.(which i have)
both wsm are 41.75" in the right hand version and the regular mag
are 44.5" in the right hand version.
    ?????????

i just went and mesured mine and it's 44.5"
could it be there's no short action in left hand?

What is the action screw spacing on your rifle? That will probably be the best way to tell what you have now.
