Entered an F-Class match with my Axis

Hi all

I had spent the better part of last summer develloping a good load for my Axis. I modified it quite a bit from stock since I got it. It has a 12VLP barrel in 223, 1:7 twist, EGW 20 moa base, aftermarket trigger, and wears a Vortex crossfire 8-32 x 50 scope, along with a Mystic Precision Mpod and a stock I made for it.

Last weekend I entered my first f-class match. First event was a 60 rounds shot at 300 yards, for a possible 600 points. I did 569, not bad. Then we had 3 matches, one at 400, one at 500 and one at 600. 15 rounds, 5 points each, v-bull is a 5 but is half-moa in size.

At 400 yards I did 73 5v, at 500 yards I did 73 4v, and at 600 yards I did 68 7v. During the 600 match, 3 bullet in the middle of my shooting went out to the left, giving me 3, 4 and 3 points. Then I re-adjusted and for the last 7 rounds I had 6 v-bull and a 5.

I had a blast, and I hope some of you attemp f-class with their Axis, you will have fun for sure

Looks like one of the nicer Axis Rifles I've seen. Looks like you modified the bolt handle as well. Good shooting and good lookin' rig.

Barrel is from a Savage 12 VLP that I bought used, 1:7 twist. The load I am shooting is 80 gr. Berger VLD over 24.5 grains of CFE223. Bullet touches the rifling, I was distracted during the 300 yards, I opened the action with a un-fired round in it and the bullet stayed in the barrel, the case stayed with the bolt, and the powder went everywhere in between. Humid temp and fine ball powder on a shooting mat are a bit sticky on the arm. Lesson learned....

It sounds like you have your bullets 'jammed', more so than touching. I havent had the pleasure of dumping powder in my action.... YET! I know it will happen, just hasnt yet.

I have been moving my AR loads over to CFE. I am liking how it meters through my powder dispenser.

And the claim about reducing copper fouling is true. Last season I did not clean my 223 once. I shot +- 500 rounds with it, and the first patch with a copper remover produce a very very faint blue color, and the next was white.

How do you like your mystic MPOD. I am building an axis based FT/R gun and that looks like a good bipod choice.

I really like the Bipod. Light, solid. Only thing is that it is a bit longer to set up than others, but once done it is great. I have my second F-Class match this weekend, I had a lot of problems, mainly vertical dispersion, so it is back to square one for me. I have to check out the bedding on my gun, and work on my reloading technique.
