I wanted something cheap to shoot, accurate and not have to worry about load developement. I just wanted something to go out and pull the trigger and also have another prairie dog gun. I have been doing my homework and settled of coarse on a Savage again. I called around and I am picking up a 93r17 FVXP this afternoon for $219!! Should be alot of fun. Is there any tips or tricks to these I should know about?

The FVXP package he set aside for me was a model 64 22lr....uh????? So they made it right by selling me a 93r17 FVSS for the same price!

    Not too shabby!

The .17HMR can be rather choosy about what they like. The Striker I had didn't like the 20gr hp's at all but loved the 17gr VMax.

My 93R17F shoots the 17g and 20g Hornady rounds equally well, as in very accurately. I'm always amazed what this little gun and round will do. The Hornady's are all I shoot with.

    Cool

I think this lil Savage is a keeper! I just got back to the office after shooting my Savage 93r17 FVSS 17hmr for the first time at the range behind my parents house. My mom came out there with me. After getting the scope dialed in we set a couple dozen eggs that had went bad from the chicken coupe on the shooting burm. After I exploded about a dozen of them I asked if she wanted to try. Now she has been around guns her whole life and never touched a rifle of any kind but she agreed to try. Something about the 17 called to her. She went 5 for 6 on the eggs and had a smile ear to ear!!!! I think I got a new shooting buddy. Eggs at 100 yards are pretty small targets with a old 3-9x40 Simmons scope but I was consistently drilling them. Those little 17 grain vmax pills sure do explode an egg!

Awesome! I'll be taking the plunge on a 17HRM later this year... going to be my "22". Going to throw a Mueller scope on it and a Harris bi-pod. Nothing special just a nice, accurate beater rifle, not that I will treat it that way. Should be able to get it all together with scope and such for less than 600.

My brother had great luck with the Savage 93R17 GLV... I think I'll go with a 93R17 GV.... Unless I can find a 93R17 BVSS for cheap.

My sons bought me a 93R17 for Christmas a while back and I don't like synthetic stocks so I bought a laminated stock and put a Bushnell 4200 6X16X40 scope on it. I adjusted the trigger, cleaned it up, torqued the action screws and with the 17gr. V-Max it shoots right at 1.0" @ 100 yds. I've been really happy with it. I cannot upload a picture. Probably my low post count?
