    7mm WSM or 270 to 7mm or 300 to 7mm

    Hello All,

I like to shoot the 162gr A-Max from my 7mm WSM. Everything is OK but when I wear the barrel out I am leaning towards something that has a longer case neck. The design for the 7mm WSM was geared towards the lighter 120 - 150gr rounds but for the 162gr I think that a little longer neck would be nice. Anyone shooting the 7/300 or the 7/270 versions of the WSM?

    Thanks,

    Robert

The design of the 7mm neck had nothing to do with the lighter weight bullets. It was designed to keep from accidently chambering a 7mm WSM round in a 270 WSM rifle. I do believe there are some people doing what your refering to though but I'm not one of them. Jcalhoun might know of some.

Don't overlook the 7mm SAUM. It has a longer neck and feeds better than the WSM cartridges. You will be giving up next to nothing for performance and will use less powder as well. Check out this site for some great info

The 7/300 and the 7/270 are the same thing. The only difference is if you are necking up or down.

I thought about it when I ordered my barrel but I went with the straight 7mmWSM. I did it for the extra fps over the 300/270wsm's and the RSAUM. I figure the amount of accuracy difference between the two neck lengths amounts to a butterfly's fart in a hurricane.

I'm using Norma brass that's been fireformed for the 7mmWSM.
