    A $700 Edge

I stopped by a local pawn shop on a gun rack prowl when I came across a used, blued Savage Edge in 30-06. It was in pretty good condition overall but was still obviously used. It also had a BSA scope and two-piece mounts. So, it was a pretty unremarkable find. I was a bit shocked, however, to see the price tag showed $699.99. I asked the guy behind the counter if the price was correct; he said it was. He couldn't quite explain why it was priced the way it was and seemed to be convinced the 110 on the shelf next to it was Savage's "economy model".

Anyway, is there a reason a used Edge would be that expensive? I don't want to be a jerk and make an offer that seems like I'm totally lowballing him, but I don't see that setup costing more than $300 or so. New ones in this area retail for $300-350.

I can buy a new blued/parkerized Axis at my local Wally World for $273 or a SS one for $324 last time I was there. Unless that BSA is made of Silver or Gold I'd say he's out of his mind.

I believe we can still get brand new Axis in .308 or .243 for under $300 brand new. From some of the local gun shops, no less. Pawn shops think they have gold plated, diamond encrusted merchandise sometimes....
'Scuse me while I whip this out...!

I ran into this last week at a pawn shop where I am a regular and get VERY good pricing. They have a SS Axis with a camo stock, $549. A plain Jane blue/black Axis $599. Bought the 300 Win Mag 110, round back receiver, in excellent shape for $250. I love the Axis, but not that much.
