Hodgdon BL-C(2) in .223?

Just wonderig if anyone has hald luck using Hodgdon BL-(2) for .223??? It is readily available near me yet I have never heard anything about it. I am shooting it with 69 Sierra HPBT's. Getting better than 1/2" at 100 yds in a Savage 12

I have a pet PD load I use with 55gr V-max's.
26.0gr BL-C2, 7-1/2 rem primers, LC brass. 2750 chrony'd out of a 20" oly AR. I know I could push them a little harder, but I'm getting sub-MOA now. Chrony'd 2800 using CCI 41's.....which is what I prefer........if I can find them at a decent price.
My accuracy load for 69SMK's is 25.5gr Varget - same primers and brass. Chrony's at 2800 out of the same rifle and shoots .250 all day long at 100. If Varget ever comes around again............

BL-C2 was the ONLY powder that my former T\C .223 would shoot one ragged hole with. And believe me.....I must have tried a million....no maybe two-million powder\bullet combinations before someone suggested BL-C2 with a 40gr. V-MAX in the 1-12 T\C tube.

Yeah, I may have stumbled onto something... working up some loads I made a one-hole, 3 shot group that is actually immeasurable, I swear. Will have to wait till tomorrow to confirm whether it was fluke or not. But the ladder tests looked real promising wit 26 g

BL-C2 and H335 have been the best 223 powders I have ever loaded. IIRC H335 gave a little more speed, but not sure I remember right.

H335 loads have worked equally well in ALL my 223 rifles.

Your post reminded me of the first time I went to the range with the BL-C2 loads. After I fired the second shot I assumed the round completely missed the 12" shoot 'n see target. Then I fired the third round, and again....I looked thru my spottin scope and I thought the hole looked a bit oblong. But I was thinking....NAH....that has to be a insect on the hole!!!

I was.....surprised and elated at the same time when I went down to look at the target.

It worked great in my 222's (which I sold), and it should be the same in a 223. Luckus

I used Blc2 in my 223 with great success. Benchmark is good also, for lighter pills. Good luck with varget too...

And the list starts........223, 308, 30-06, 6.5 grendel, 8mm mauser, and 338-06. The only thing i don't use it in or at least tried it in is my 260. It is a good all around powder.

Just loaded 650 rounds,using 25.5 gr of BLC-2 ,seated w/55 gr PSP bullet for Squirrel Hunt next years, still have another 300 rounds to go, same powder gr's , but seating with 50 gr SP bullets, I used this combination this season, and at range, BOLT Action, Remington SPS, worked great. Also using CCI small rifle Magnum primers.

H335 and BL-C(2) are the same powder. The "spec" for the powder had a range of less than 1% of CaCO. The lower end of that range (in canister grade) is called H335, the other end (again commercially) is called BL-C(2).

Might want to rethink that darkker. On the Hodgdon burn rate chart H335 is listed as 81 and BLC-2 is listed as 102. Maybe you are thinking of the cfe 223 powder as it is listed as 103 or the older Winchester 748 as it is listed as 101.

Now W760 and H414 appear to be the same powder and use the same load data.

Are the squirrels the size of German Shephards where you hunt?

I use BL-C(2) for the .223 plinking rounds that I crank out in volume because I needed a ball powder for better metering through my Hornady LnL press-mounted measure, I had load data for it and it was in stock at the time. It works quite well for that purpose.

No they're just about the size of small rabbit I load this way do to the wind and the distance of the squirrels, normally we are hitting at 2 to 400+ yards,I well be using my .17 20 gr. for the 50 to 150 yards .depending on the wind...Were hunting ground squirrels.
Most of my Bench restTarget shooting is 200 to 300 yards, using my .223 and .22-250....both are Remingtom Varmint SPS and a .17 Hornet Savage 25 and a Ruger 10/22
Load's .223 25.5 gr's BLC2
.22-250 35.8 gr's H380
Also have use H335, H4198 N-130 Etc......Mag primer's and standard primer's
.17 Hornet H335,H110, Lit'l Gun, H4198, BLC2.....8.5 to 10.0 gr's of powder

Well......here in Pennsylvania we actually have squirrels the size of German Shepards....or even bigger. But these are only in select parts of the State......Think Three Mile Island.....and bring your 416 Rigby.

Ball-C and 748 may be the same, BUT DO SOME SERIOUS RESEARCH before you exchange them! It is my understanding that 748 is about what the military spec is for 223. Please remember I am old and sometimes dream this stuff.
