Any thoughts on bull barrel for Savage MARK II?

I'm thinking about buying the Savage MARK II FV-SR. It comes with a 16.5" bull barrel. Please share your thoughts with me on this bull barrel. Thanks very much. Shoot safe.

Yea, I have a Bull barrel on my .22 mag savage 93 and love it, its not to heavy when hunting and it helps on the grouping.

Mine is a good shooter. Not heavy at all, but you will want to get an aftermarket stock as Gary did. Who makes that stock Gary? Looks nice.

I have the older MK2 BV w/ the slightly longer bull barrel. If you give it good ammo, it will shoot. 1/2" @ 50, sometimes slightly better, always under an inch. I have only fired mine maybe once at 100 yd. and it opens up to probably 2" with the same ammo. 100 or farther is a completely different game. Cool to fire and watch the round impact the target though.

Thanks very much for your reply's people. I was hoping for a tack driver but for the price that may be asking to much. Also at my age I will not be able to group as well mas I used to. I'll be 69 in July. Good chance I'll give the Savage bull barrel a try. Hope I like it. Thanks again.

I like heavy rifles, so I'm all in favor of the bull barrel. I don't think the barrels themselves are more accurate, but I find that extra weight out front helps me hold still on the bench and offhand. I'm a pretty big guy, so the extra weight doesn't bother me at all when I'm toting my 93 small game hunting. It will also heat up slower when you are shooting a bunch of rounds at the range.

I feel pretty much as you do Brian about bull barrels. If the weight becomes a problem a sling should solve the problem. Thanks much for your reply.

Took about 8 months to find one at retail VS $350 used.
    It's not really a heavy barrel, medium maybe .79 vs .92 on a 10/22
Weight is nice vs a .92 barrel
    Trigger is great.
Always hated Savage mag release. Feels cheap.
Action is smooth after 20 rounds and a good cleaning.
    5 round mag SUCKS it's 5 not 5+1
Stock SUCKS due to how high the scope sits it's hard to get a cheek weld.
But the stock is very lite so if it's hunting you do, get a cheek pad!
Out of the box $249 16.5" barrel shoots as good as my high dollar 10/22 target with lots of extras.
I plan to get the Boyds SS Evolution. Have the same one on my 10/22 and love it.
Limited stocks for Savage but the ones I have seen are nice.
I have not shot past 50 yards yet. I plan to try 250 with this. I do it on my 10/22.
Day 1 at the range took 4 rounds to be in the red at 50 yards.
Then the next 11 rounds there was no red left. No flyers.
CCI Blazer bulk 40gr With a Leupold 3-9x50 Rifleman on a bipod.

All in all if you can find one, GET IT!
I almost paid retail for a used one but went looking for powder and asked just as a joke. He got it 2 days later from PA

My MKII BV shoots ~0.9 at 100 yards. I absolutely love this rifle
