My Custom 110L .30-06

Built by my dad sometime in the late 1960s from a barreled action. He did all the stockwork, glass bedding, checkering and finishing. Serial # is 349XX (I'd love to know the year of manufacture for certain). I haven't shot it much yet, but I remember shooting with my dad 30 years ago and this rifle was a tack driver with his tailored reloads.

Beautiful gun, and always nice to have a gun with a lot of good memories. Treasure it forever and don't chang a thing as it looks like he did a pretty good job on it.

With that barrel bulge, all I can tell you for a date is 1958 to 1965 early style 110. Those use a different trigger system and a different style bolt head and barrel than the 1966 to present models. On the 58-65's the bolthead actually fits into a recess in the breach of the barrel similar to a Remington style bolt.

Thanks bootsmcguire - the gun is very special. All of my dad's guns are special in their own way, and all are still in the family. I know my dad did this one sometime after 1965 because my sister brags about helping him since I was gone off to college. I also am sure it was finished before 1969 because we hunted in together during my senior year and it killed its first buck.

Anyway, I appreciate the info and compliment on my dad's pride and joy.

Thanks rattfink - I love this rifle more and more every time I handle it. Hope to get out to the range with it this week. About the only thing I might change is the recoil pad. It's gotten kinda hard over these last 40+ years.

Magnificent is an understatement. But, may I be bold enough to suggest that after 40 yrs it is maybe time to check for a freeflaoting barrel and tang, a little oil on all moving parts (bolt and trigger). Wood, no matter how well it is cared for will warp over time, that is why I suggest checking free float. A brisk cleaning of the barrel and chamber to remove old congealed oil would be a good idea as well. I lust after beautiful wood stocked rifles and this one definately has my lust in the 10 range.

Thanks for the suggestions ellobo, and the compliment as well. My dad was proud of the rifle, and of course so am I. Let me assure you that it has been well maintained over all those years, first by my dad and then by my brother-in-law and me when dad no longer could. The only thing I haven't done over the years is check the free float. The rifle is beautifully glass bedded and I don't anticipate a problem there, but you're right - it's wise to check it.

Beautiful !!!! Seeing that rifle brought back a lot of memories. That is an heirloom to be passed down from father to son for generations to come.
