hog hunter scope mount help please

I have a Savage Hog Hunter 11/111 .308 and I'm wanting to use some high mounted
see through rings so I can still use my iron sights. Would these rings fit?
Also I was wondering if I need a rail... I saw some with the middle cut out for
ejection.. and if I am looking at trash please point me in the right direction.

    here are the rings
    http://www.amazon.com/Wideview-Scope...+through+rings

here is the scope I decided on
    http://www.amazon.com/Nikon-ProStaff...nikon+prostaff

thanks in advance for the help

The rings should work, but the bases are for remingtons, and the Savage 170, so you will have to get the correct bases. You could get a rail, or use two pc mounts, its basically whatever your preferece is. The pc mounts can make it a bit harder to load a blind magazine if you have sausage fingers.

Now I'm not sure I even want the see through rings.
I've looked at several scope mounts, but I am unsure which ones will fit on my rifle.
I would love the style the has part of the middle cut out or just a normal rail.
This is my first rifle and sadly I have no idea what I'm doing.

Ahh, been there. Personally I have been very happy with these on several rifles:

    Medium Rings

    or High Rings

Another place to look is EGW. They have a banner here and sell some nice 1pc rails for Savage.

Remember you are looking for a Short Action Round Rear type which is what fits the 308 Hog Hunter. I only mention that because you said this is your 1st rifle and there are a couple of styles and lengths of Savage Bases depending on the length and age of the reciever.

Thanks for the info that really helps me figure out what I can and can't use.
I figured I would run the stuff I'm about to order by you just to save me trouble if they aren't right.

All looks like it should work. Rings look like the should be high enough to clear the barrel, but you never know until its assembled. Let me know how those rings work out, they look pretty decent.

Not sure if it interests you but.... you could get a QD mount where you can remove the scope in a flash in order to use the sights, or consider a low power scope(1-4x/1-6x)and not use the sights or a red dot with a flip over magnifier even. I personaly dislike high rings on a rifle due to cheek weld issues.

I have an EGW 20MOA rail on mine. I can see the sights over the rail with no scope mounted.

I ended up removing the rear sight blade to mount my scope where I wanted it. You will probably need high rings if you want to clear the rear blade.

I didn't think about the rings being too low to where the scope won't clear the barrel.
On the other hand the main reason for not getting the see through style rings was the cheek wield issue.
Now I wonder if I should stick with the low ones, or bump up to medium. I was planning on taking the rear
sight off. If I ever need to I can take the rings off and put the rear sight back on. Again, clearing the barrel
is my only concern. I'm leaning toward getting the low ones, I can return them if they are too low.
