    308 1200yd bullets....

as much as i love my tried and true 168smk, it is pretty much impossible to get them to 1000yds supersonic, so i need to change bullets when i start load work ups for my next f/tr, what off the shelf bullets are you using? i prefer varget, re-15, re-22 type powder as i have all those...

    155 Scenars or Sierra's.

Thought about bumping up to the 180/190/200/208's? Does not have to stay supersonic to be accurate at 1K.

175 smks over 43.5g RL15 2550 fps MV hits to 1150, don't know whether or not they were sub/super though...

you listen to what most of the pro's say, and i am thinking specifically of an article on 6br, and the video that is in the centerfire section, about how the bullet does not consistantly make the transistion to subsonic, and the impacts really open up. the general conscensus is take a high aero bullet, push it as hard as it will tolerate, so it stays supersonic longer, if it is still super sonic at 1200 yds, it will still be very consistant at 1000yds, which is my goal this summer. some guys go heavy and slow, but there is also that palma crowd pushing the 155's... this is for a factory savage f/tr, i am gonna pick one flavor and run w/ it....

I'm going to give Berger 185 gr. VLD's a try...over a charge of Varget. Hoping to try the Berger's at the 1K range come spring. Might also order up some Ramshot TAC to try as well.

Good Luck....1200 is a pretty fair distance.

That is not necessarily true with ALL bullets. Some....yes...

Cannot argue with "...things in motion tend to stay in motion".

Heavier bullet pushed at a moderate rate, IF stabilized properly, is rather good.

The Savage competition rifle that I shoot loves 180 gr Nosler BT's and 208 gr AMax's. The 208's fly better and are more accurate at long distance...even though they leave the barrel slower.

I have not tried it but I was told that some folks were keeping the 208 Amax supersonic out to 1400 yards give or take a few, with RL17 IIRC. That should make a good 1200 yard load assuming that it actually can be done with the required accuracy.

I attempted to reproduce the USMC's sniper round, and have had really good luck at the 1100 yard gong.
    175 SMK and 748 powder
I'm a firm believer in the theory that if it bleeds, I can kill it.

I use Berger 155.5 Fullbore Targets. Not a VLD so it's not too finicky about being loaded off the lands (i.e., mag length). 2830 fps at the muzzle gets you to 1k yards at about 1200 fps. Not the most aerodynamic compared to a VLD.

A Berger 155 VLD at the same MV will get you to 1k at 1250 fps but I've found it more finicky.

43.2 grains Varget & 155 scenars get me 2800 fps mv. That should be ±1400 fps at 1000 yards. Haven't actually shot it at 1000 yds yet though, only 700 with good results.
