Welcome to the site.
Each barrel has it own personality, and what works in some may not work in all. Barrels twist rate can be a bit faster or slower than advertised. I had a 1 in 9.25 Factory Savage Varmint barrel that loved 107 gr SMK's. the gun had no problem stabilizing this bullet, and at 1000 yards the bullet bored nice round holes through the wood backers. I know of one other that has had good luck with this combo. Majority of people have had excellent luck with Hornady 105 A max in this type of barrel. BIB makes a 108 Flat back bullet and it is designed for a 1 in 10 twist barrel, this bullet can blow up in faster twist (1in8) barrels. Basically the moral of the story is depending on bullet design, and personality of the barrel, it may work and it may not, the only way to tell is to give it a try.
The 105g Hornady A-Max has shot well in every Savage .243 barrel I have owned (that would be at least 3). The difference between the 107 Sierra and 105 A-Max is not worth a "ballistic give a you know what".
Yes I have been reloading for 40 years. some manufactures make a side note on the 105 107 recommend a faster twist. I had a ruger heavy barrel with 1:10 that would shoot 100 but not 105. I bought a new model 12 243 and have shot 100 105 just fine. I was hopping to see if anyone had tried everything from 105 the dtac 115gn. to avoid buying alot of different bullets some of which you can buy only in larger guanitys save time money and barrel life.
Thanks Rod
You all may already know about this site. Bullet samples. Tom Redden is a real nice fella to deal with.http://www.bulletsamples.com/
I had not heard of them I will try them
thanks
I know the 115 D tac will not work, the recommended twist rate is 1 in 7 on it. I talked to David Tubbs and he told me that to stabilize it in a 1 in 8 twist you would need to push it faster than 3000 fps. My 6x47 Lapua with a 1 in 8 does fine with them, but it is on the edge.
