Need input 308 FT/R bullet choice

Have everything set up, 30" bull barrel, going to start off with Lapua Palma small primer brass. Have about 200 Lapua brass for now.

I had intended to run the 208 amax and have about 140 308 208 gr amax bullets, but they are vaporware and nowhere to be found, along with most of the other reloading components so that is all I have and dont know when midway etc will restock.

In the past I have the best luck with Lapua and Berger bullets in other calibers.
If I go purely match bullet which one would be THE bullet to go with for 600 and 1000 yards.
I would prefer to only load one bullet for both. Thanks

Some of the heavy bullets need a little extra throat. Many of the 208 shooters have a COL of 2.950-3.00 or more. 155, 175 to 190 class do good Your choice of MFG is a good one.

175gr SMK is a good bullet at 600 & 1k. I had good results with the 168 Nosler BTHP at 600 but have not tried it it at 1k. 168 Berger also works well.

I'm not sure there is a "THE" bullet for anything, but here goes...

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I'm a pretty simple guy and I hesitate to change anything that's already working. Therefore, my preference is still the plain old 175gr SMK. It's not fancy and it isn't what the cool kids are doing, but it works.

That said, 155gr Scenars are good too.

That's the only two bullets that I've seen perform well in a lot of rifles at both 600 and 1,000. I'm definitely not saying there aren't better bullets for certain rifles, but the 155gr Scenar and 175gr SMK seem to shoot well out of just about any good 308.

    I use a Berger 190 Hunting VLD, 1/10 twist. 45gr varget. lapua,210 match primer. I get 2700fps retains 1340fps at 1000. I use it at 600 also.
Thats a .308 with 34moa elevation @ 1000. Heaver bullets do best at this distance.

175gr SMK works for me at any distance as does the 178gr AMax.

The 168g Sierra,Berger and Nolser are all good out to 600 yards, the 168g Berger will go out to 1000 yards with no problem, but is you shoot the Sierra or Nosler at 1000 yards you will need to bump up to the 175g bullets, the Nosler and Sierra 168g will sometimes go subsonic before it reaches 1000 yards.

Funny u say that, I tested bergers 185 vld hybrid target last weekends match, all I had was 15 bullets a friend gave me. I like them better than the 190. All grouped well within the 9 ring, playing with the windage knobs, elevation was consistent at 1000. Don't know what the velocity was, would guess at or over 2700,didn't look it up,shot from the hip, loaded night before. load was 44 grains if varget .0015 off the lands. I bought 300,looks like 4 weeks before I see them, on backorder.

Anyone shooting a .223 or .308 at that distance requires . Most all of my league members are scared to shoot those calibers at that distance. All they (f/tr) want to do is the 600.....

Sounds like somebody needs a good .260AI for shooting 1k at PSC!

Berger 185 Juggernauts...better ballistics than any 175, can be shot from factory savage 1in12 twist barrels with great success.
31 minutes of elevation at 1000 and better windage than the 175.

Hornady 178 BTHP match is a close second.

The accuracy if the Bergers is superb and as good an easy to tune as the matchkings. The hornadys are a little harder to tune but shoot very well once tuned
