Should I grease the bolt slide on my model 12?

Just as the title says. I have been using my 12 BTCSS dry, except for the light coat of rem oil that the bolt gets when wiping it down. Should I be greasing the bolt head and slide rails? I fired about 500 rounds through it so far and can see some streaks showing up on the slide area and i'm afraid i'm grinding it away.

I don't see why not. Just keep it clean and without excess.

Agreed. Generally its the stuff (crud) between the parts is what causes wear, especially galling of the locking lugs.

I suggest the Sinclair kit for cleaning.

As far as the slippery stuff, I use Break-Free on the bolt, lug races, bolt grease( TM, Shooters Choice) or lithium grease on the lugs.

All that's needed it a light "wetting" coat of any lubricant - protectant . Too much of anything only serves as a crud magnet.

Light oil is all you need on the areas you're talking about. It's just normal wear you're seeing and it happens to every factory rifle. Like Bill said, if you have too much oil or grease on there you'll just attract more dirt to that area and basically make a sandpaper paste.

The only place you need to even consider grease on a bolt action is on the back of the locking lugs and maybe just a bit where the cocking pin slides against the rear of the bolt body. But for the average shooter even that can be overkill. A little oil will suffice for most people.
