Should read Savage 99 obviously! :-[
I've just purchased a 1960 savage 99 in .308 It's in excellent condition, and I'm going to use it for target shooting and hunting (deer and elk).
I won't be shooting out beyond 300m. Hunting will be west of Calgary Alberta in aspen woodland, Rocky Mountain foothills, or ranch land.
I'd like to go with a Leupold, but right now Basspro has a great deal on a Bushnell Elite 3200 2-7x32 for $147.00 (Canadian)!

I checked with Bass Pro in Calgary re the Bushnrll 3200 @ $145 Ca. While on their net at $145, this is the American price. Is their some other Bass Pro in AB that has this deal?
That's bad news - I went through the Canada site, and the Calgaryv location, and found this deal, so thought it was legit for Canada
I prefer compact scopes on all my rifles. I've owned and used all the following scopes. The Leupold VX-II Ultralight 2-7x33 or 3-9x33 would be my recommendation on a Savage 99. Compact, light, tough, 1/4 click adjustments and good resale value when you decide to trade up to a Leupold VX-3 2.5-8x36. Another great scope if still available in Canada would be the Sightron SII 2.5-10x33. Compact, equal glass and great tracking scope at 1/2 the price. I would not recommend the Leupold VX-1 or Rifleman models. In this price range I'd go with a compact Burris Timberline or take a look at what Mueller has to offer.
