    MkII Boyds Tacticool stock questions

Very nice stock by the way for $80.
This is going to be a 100% target gun with a target scope.

I assume you cant bed these actions due to the posts ??
    Dont see how anyway.

Should I install pillars in the wood stock or just screw it down as is ??

What sort of varnish should I use.
Think I am going to just leave it natural color.

I have used Tung oil before but its soft.
I am thinking I might want a satin varnish or something that is not so shiney.

    Thanks

A mahogany stain with a satin finish will look good.

The action should be beddable with Acra-glas gel. You just won't need much.

Just picked one up from Midway. You might have to play with the color a little. The stock is laminated and any glue that is around the layers won't take the stain. I wound up painting mine.

I'm brand new here. Is there a post limit I have to reach before I can view the Classifieds? Disn't see anything about it in the rules.

You definitely can bed stocks for the Mark II but it's a serious PITA and you'll use up a lot of clay plugging the little gaps in the action to prevent a mechanical lock. Put at least a couple layers of tape on the bottom of the posts/pillars/whatever to prevent them from bottoming out on the bedding compound, then use a dental pick the pull the tape out of the bottom of the holes when the bedding is fully dry.

Some people install pillars but I never have, and from what I can tell, most people don't mess with pillars unless their OCD is acting up. The critical thing is DO NOT overtighten the action screws. Due to the small amount of stock material in the area it is very easy to crack the stock. Plus, most Mark IIs seem to be most accurate when the screws are around 15 INCH/lbs, which is basically just tight enough to keep the action from falling out of the stock when you cycle the bolt.

As for varnishing and such, I've never tried it. TactiCOOL/tactical items tend to get spray painted in various colors around me

Boyd's is offering that stock in laminate (5 different color themes) for orders places before 12/22/13.

I ordered one in "pepper" for my Mark II, and want one in Nutmeg for my Tikka T3, too.
