Question Brass How Short Is To Short

I have about 50 pcs of 7mm rem brass, that I have had for a long time, I got it with a bunch of other stuff, I don't know what to make of it, it is all in good shape but it is anywhere from 20 thou to 100 unde,r Rem 7 mag is 2.5" and they are 2.480 to 2.410, how short can a pcs of brass be under sized and still be able to use it, and be OK.

As long as it hold a bullet and all the cases are at the same length your are fine.

Someday I want to trim my cases back in increments to see if it will make much difference in accuracy. I trim mine to pretty close to the end of the chamber and neck turn thinking it the best way but others get as good of accuracy without all that work so I wonder if it's really worth it. In the end I think that as long as it holds onto the bullet till the primer goes of its ok.

The main problem with going short is on shorter cases like a BR it magnifies ejection problems.

I once read a good write up on how to fit your cases perfectly to your chamber. However, I use a "Lee" case trimmer, which trims the case to SAMMI "minimum" length. I guess .010" shorter than "maximum" length. This trimmer provides excellent consistency on the short end and seems to be the easiest and quickest way to get there. My BIL wants to sell me a Redding case trimming set for a good price, but I don't know that I would ever use it? Good Luck ! :) ... Jim

I use a wilson and love it but the caseholder is another thing to buy when getting a new cartridge.
