Discuss pros/cons of setting up 308 in long action receiver

Any issues? I know Savage did this for years. Can the new Accutrigger LA's be set up in 308? Some pros I've heard: 1) allows a lot of freedom in bullet seating without mag length worries. 2) Longer bolt stroke may help ease feeding/stroking. 3) Wider selection of barrels/calibers per receiver, if you had only 1. Some con's I've heard: 1) LA receiver is heavier and less stiff. 2) Some doubt you'll maintain flawless feeding.

I dunno... At least it would make it easier to buy aftermarket stocks compared to the SA CF 4.4's I use now. Any inputes greatly appreciated. YH1

I just acquired a long action that was rebarreled for .204. I need to change it. Obvious problems with .204 in a long action. Input will be good. I'll be watching.

I agree with the pro's, not so much the con's.

The new long actions have center feed magazines and there are even fewer stock choices than the 4.4" short action centerfeed magazines ....

I have a .260 on an older .270 action, works great, can seat bullets way out, especially the 140 Bregers which like to be close to or into the lands. Can get the 140 Bergers to around 2900 fps very accurately.

Working on setting up a .284 on a LA also. Been doing some Quickload load workup and there is a significant velocity advantage to seating the bullets way out.

Long actions rule! Availability to many more calibers. Disagree with the cons you posted, but that's my opinion.
I love the long action. Mine has fed flawlessly with 30-06, 270, 308, 243, and I'm sure many more as I get the chance
    to try them.

The only con I can think of is the scope issue. Most scopes nowdays have short tubes. Getting them to fit on long actions will require multi slot or extended bases.

I've built everything from 280 Ackley Improved, 260, 6mm Norma BR and 223 on a 110 action. I only bench shoot so the single shot follower is used for all. I like being able to seat the bullets out in longer cases to kiss the rifling and still able to extract a live round. My next build, a 223 with a heavy 1 in 7 twist stainless fluted barrel will be on a doner 110 action and Duramaxx stock.
