From all I have read here over the years, 168 gr. bullets seem to work best in Savage rifles. Must be the rate of twist in thier barrels. The 168's work great in my Model 88 Winnie.

Hi all,
just picked up my first Savage so I'm looking for info on what ammo you've found works best in your 111. I reload but I know some factory ammo is really good too. Appreciate input on where to start.

First best load I tried was the cheap federal powerpoint 165's.
I haven't got my act in gear on reloading yet.
Life is short, make every shot count.
If I didn't load my own, I would first reach for the blue box Federal 165 grain load. It is inexpensive and is very accurate in my friend's rifle. Since I do load my own, I use Hornady 165 SPs and H4350. If I were to run 150 grain bullets, I would reach for IMR 4064 first.
So far what has worked best in my 111 is Hornaday performance 165gr SST
thanks guys. appreciate the replies.
Using 165 class bullets you will find somewhere around 54 or 57 +/ - grains of IMR 4350 shoots purty good.
My sons savage 111 30-06 shoots Federal 150 grain bullets very well. Three shots under a dime time after time, off the bench at 100 yds.
Anyone here shooting big bullets out of their .06? Like over 200 grains?
Have some HSM heavies I am going to try out later on after I get my 112 dialed in. My BDC reticle is dialed in for 180's @ 2700fps. +/- 1 MOA @ 1000 yds.
